      On March 23, 2019, the launching ceremony of the World Tourism Alliance (WTA) Headquarters and World Tourism Museum Project was held in Xiaoshan, Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. Li Jinzao, Deputy Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Cheng Yuechong, Vice Governor of the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province, Xu Liyi, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Hangzhou Municipal Committee and Mayor of Hangzhou, Tong Guili, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hangzhou Municipal Committee and Secretary of the Xiaoshan District Committee, Mayor Wang Min and the representatives from WTA kicked off the groundbreaking ceremony. The launching ceremony was hosted by Chu Ziyu, Director of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism.

      On September 12, 2017, the World Tourism Alliance, the first global, comprehensive, non-governmental and non-profit international organization initiated and established by China, was grandly established in Chengdu, China.

      On November 9, 2017, Hangzhou won the top score in the fierce competition with Chengdu, Guangzhou, Xi’an, Xiamen and other cities in the site selection meeting of the headquarters of World Tourism Alliance (WTA) and was chosen as the city where headquarter of World Tourism Alliance (WTA) locates.

      A memorandum of strategic cooperation is signed between the World Tourism Alliance and the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province on December 17, 2017. According to the spirit of the memorandum, the headquarters base of the World Tourism Alliance will be built on Yahushan Island, Xianghu Lake, Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou City and will be made into the “Member Service Home” of the World Tourism Alliance.

      It is understood that the World Tourism Museum is an important part of the World Tourism Alliance Headquarters Project. It is a multi-functional professional museum that integrates cultural display and communication, collection and research, exhibition and exchange, tourism and leisure with the theme of world tourism. This will fill the gaps in the world’s comprehensive tourism museum.

      The World Tourism Alliance Headquarters and the World Tourism Museum Project, invested and constructed by Zhejiang Xianglv Holding Group, is scheduled to be completed and put into use by the end of 2020.
