      World Tourism Alliance (WTA) held 2019 reception in Beijing

      On November 28th, the World Tourism Alliance (hereinafter referred to as the WTA) held a reception in Beijing. WTA Chairman Duan Qiang and ambassadors of Algeria and Tunisia to China attended the meeting and delivered their speeches, where about 300 people were also present, including Secretary General of the WTA Liu Shijun, ambassadors of Romania and Jordan to China, 40 representatives of embassies in China and international organizations, and representatives of a dozen of offices of international travel agencies in China, 53 Chinese and international members of the WTA and the media.

      Duan Qiang said in his speech that the WTA has been striving to fulfill its mission of promoting tourism for peace, development, and poverty alleviation with the vision of “Better Tourism, Better Life, Better World” since it’s founded two years ago. The WTA, he said, organized a series of events that included the WTAXianghu Dialogue and the River Valley Civilization Tourism Forum, and released the World Tourism Alliance Cases of Poverty Alleviation Through Tourism, the Report on China’s Inbound Tourism Data Analysis 2019, the 2019 World Tourism Development Report, the Report on China’s Domestic Tourism Market Climate Survey, the Report on China’s Inbound Tourism Market Climate Survey, and the Report on China’s Outbound Tourism Market Climate Survey, etc. In his remarks, Duan Qiang said that the WTA served as a platform for its members to communicate and cooperate, that it offered intellectual support and decision-making to the development of the international tourism industry, and that it contributed to the poverty alleviation through tourism across the world. Looking ahead, he said, the WTA would ride the wave of development of the global tourism industry by continuing to provide opportunities for communication, cooperation, and development, deepening exchanges and cooperation across the globe, and promoting the sustainable and healthy development of the global tourism industry.

      Ambassador of Algeria to China Ahcne Boukhelfa said that tourism cooperation was the most active and promising part of economic and trade cooperation as well as cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and expressed his hope that the WTA could facilitate communication in the tourism industry among all countries.

      Ambassador of Tunisia to China Dhia Khaled said that the WTA was visionary in many of its work and increased understanding of and cooperation among major participants of various tourism industries around the world. The release of the Tourism Development Report on River Valley Civilization, he said, would serve as a guide for the tourism industry and agencies concerned.

      Duan Qiang announced that the WTA Annual Conference 2020, the WTA Council 2020, and the WTAXianghu Dialogue 2020 would be held on September 6th - 9th next year, and that the WTA would continue to hold the Yiwu Dialogue and the River Valley Civilization Tourism Forum, and organize events for its members in China’s Guanzhou, France, Bulgaria, and Italy, such as the workshops of China-Europe tourism cooperation and tourist destination promotion.

      Also, Vice Mayor of Linfen Pan Haiyan made some introductions at the reception and released the Tourism Development Report on River Valley Civilization. Duan Qiang and some guests were invited to light the Cloisonne with blue, and representatives communicated with each other and experienced the intangible cultural heritage projects from Beijing and Linfen.

      The WTA currently has 198 members across 39 countries and regions, covering all 5 continents, including national tourism associations, influential tourism companies, academia, cities, and media, heads of international organizations, former national leaders, retired tourism officials, heads of tourism companies, and well-noted scholars, etc.
